According to the obituary, Frank Montuori died at Quincy City
Hospital after a short illness. At the time, he resided at 7 Murdock Ave
in Quincy. Services were held at St Joseph''s Church.
Family oral history states that Nicholas Masi changed his name after
killing a man in a bar fight. Nicholas returned to Italy for 2 years,
later to return as Frank Montuori, taking the name from a cousin in Italy
who had passed away. In fear of retribution, the family was to live a
sheltered life, seldom visiting relatives.
After talking to Peter Soriano (77) who got information from his
mother, Nicholas'' sister, and from talking to Nicholas, the story sounds a
little different. A man in a bar called Nicholas a ''dirty guinea ...'',
angering Nicholas. Nick went home, washed up, went back to the bar, and
blew the man''s head off. Bond was set at $10,000. The money was put up
by close neighbors, who then lost their house when Nick skipped bail,
returning to Italy. After WWI ended, Nick returned as his dead brother,
Frank, and took his mother''s maiden name, Montuori. The family moved to
Quincy, MA from Tarrey Town, NY. I suspect it was the neighbors who Nick
was afraid would turn him in.
According to his obituary, he lived in Quincy, MA for 45 years, was a
construction foreman for Cities Service Oil company until circa 1946.
Member of the Quincy Sons of Italy Lodge.
